College Bound from Birth Quality Improvement with Teachers

Working with teachers, College Bound from Birth improves the quality of early childhood learning environments

In the second year of the College Bound from Birth program, the early childhood experts at Collaborative for Children begin offering intensive quality improvement professional development to the teachers in the selected child care centers. Support for teachers includes:

  • Training focused on improving the classroom environment
  • One-on-one mentoring and coaching
  • Equipment and materials grants
  • Financial incentives: teacher stipends

By providing quality professional development to teachers backed by their directors' support, College Bound from Birth aims to:

  • Improve the quality of the classroom environments as measured by the Environment Rating Scales
  • Close the gap toward kindergarten readiness as measured by the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, the Woodcock-Johnson Applied Problems scale and the Woodcock-Johnson Letter-Word Identification scale
  • Improve the quality of the selected College Bound from Birth centers to achieve three-star or four-star Texas Rising Star certification
