Dedication, Passion and Other Important Essentials

Establishing a licensed child care center, a licensed family child care home or registered family child home is an endeavor requiring dedication, passion and a number of important initial steps. Collaborative for Children can help you navigate the journey, which begins by fulfilling these basic requirements.

  • Initial orientation and at least 20 hours of training
  • Proof of a high school diploma or GED
  • Up-front payment of all required fees
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Shot records for any pet that lives in your home/facility
  • Smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher in all areas where children play
  • Toys, preferably age appropriate
  • Background checks for everyone who works in your center and/or resides in your home
  • A TB test
  • A working telephone – land-line or cellular phone
  • Established policies and procedures for your center or family home
