
Dedication, Passion and Other Important Essentials
Establishing a licensed child care center, a licensed family child care home or registered family child home is an endeavor requiring dedication, passion and a number of important initial steps. Collaborative for Children can help you navigate the journey, which begins by fulfilling these basic requirements.
- Initial orientation and at least 20 hours of training
- Proof of a high school diploma or GED
- Up-front payment of all required fees
- Certification in CPR and First Aid
- Shot records for any pet that lives in your home/facility
- Smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher in all areas where children play
- Toys, preferably age appropriate
- Background checks for everyone who works in your center and/or resides in your home
- A TB test
- A working telephone – land-line or cellular phone
- Established policies and procedures for your center or family home
